Personal details: „It’s a global threat and it’s increasing” [source] www.iscpcardio.org. That is what Prof. Thomas Kahan says about high blood pressure in the world. Although we don’t know how to prevent hypertension yet, Kahan issues that there are only a few studies that are devoting to this topic.
His main research interests are related to neurohormonal mechanisms in the control of blood pressure and cardiac function. In particular, his researches focus on the impacts of the sympathetic nervous system and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system on hypertension and hypertensive heart disease.
Besides an interactive session about haemodynamics, heart and hypertension, Prof. Kahan’s focus at this year’s ESC Congress will lay on the interplay between hypertension and the risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AF) and stratification of AF risk.
