HowTo: ContactsYou know each other, you appreciate each other, you follow each other. That's what community is all about! Want to see new posts from colleagues in your news stream or get in touch concerning a topic? Here you can find out how.
1. Who are "My contacts"?

Your contacts consist of other registered community members who have connected with you on DocCheck or follow you.

2. Where can I find my contacts?

Click on your profile picture in the top right-hand corner and select "My contacts" in the drop-down menu.

Here you will see your existing contacts (i.e. people who follow you) with their profile picture, name and profession.

3. What can I do in the "Contacts" section?

Click on a contact's profile picture, name or profession to go to their profile page.

Click on the green "Follow" button to connect with the contact. You can find out what this means in steps 5 & 6.

Click on the green "Message" button to send a message to your contact. You can learn how this works in the article "HowTo: Messages".

You don't have any contacts yet? Let's change that...
4. How can I find other DocCheck members?

Colleagues from different fields publish posts on DocCheck, which can be found via the search (magnifying glass in the upper right corner). After you have clicked on a post, the author will be displayed on the top left of the detail page. Click on the author's name to access their profile and learn more about them.

In the comment section of a post, DocCheck members can exchange thoughts and ideas. The author is displayed for each comment. Click on the name of the commentator to go to their profile page.

Note: If a person has used a pseudonym when commenting, there is no possibility to get to or follow the Doccheck member's profile. 5. How can I connect with other DocCheck members?

Click on the green "Follow" button!

You will see it

on the profile page of every DocCheck member (below their profile picture)
or, if you move your mouse over the profile picture of the respective DocCheck member in the comments to a post.

Note: If a person has used a pseudonym when commenting, there is no way to get to the Doccheck member's profile or to follow them.

After you click on "Follow", the person you want to follow will receive an email notification and can decide if they want to connect with you. Once they follow you as well, you can send messages to each other.

Tip: Upload a profile picture of yourself so that colleagues can recognize you more easily. It builds trust and helps the other person find you more quickly in their contacts later on.

6. What happens when I follow another DocCheck member?

You will be informed about new activities (publication of posts or comments) of your contact in your personal newsstream ("Home"). This way you always stay up-to-date.

Assuming the other person is also following you, you can send messages to each other.

You will be listed in the "Followed by" section of your new contact's profile and will also appear in their "My contacts" section.

7. Where can I find the people I am following?

In your profile, DocCheck members you follow are displayed under the "Follows" tab. Here you can also see channels that you have subscribed to.

If this person also follows you, they will be displayed in your contacts (click on profile picture in the upper right corner, menu item "My contacts").

8. I am following another DocCheck member. Why can't I send a message to this person?

This is because the DocCheck member is not (yet) following you.

As soon as you follow one another, you can send messages to each other.

9. I don´t want to follow another DocCheck member any longer. How can I change that?

You have the option to unfollow another DocCheck member at any time by clicking on "unfollow".

You can do this

on the profile page of the respective DocCheck member (below their profile picture). First click on the three dots and and then select "Unfollow".
in the "Follows" tab of your profile. Hover over the profile picture of the respective DocCheck member and click on "Unfollow".

If you unfollow a DocCheck member, you will no longer be informed about their activities and you will no longer be able to send each other messages.
