The coccygeal cord (Pars coccygis medullae spinalis) of the human is formed just rudimentally. It is represented with one segment (Co1).
In one section of the cervical and lumbar cord, the spinal cord shows a macroscopically visible increased thickness that is caused by the higher density of nerve cells in this area. The two sections are called Intumescentia cervicalis and Intumescentia lumbosacralis.
