A bunion (hallux valgus) is a deformity characterized by lateral deviation of the great toe. The larger part of the bump is a normal part of the head of first metatarsal bone that has tilted sideways to stick out at its top, the smaller part is due to a swollen bursal sac and/or bone anomalies. Bunions may be caused by flat feet or other conditions of the foot.
Furthermore the second toe also shows a deformity here that may have been caused by the deviation of the first toe.
