Chronic fluorosis - demineralization of the enamel - is caused by the longterm usage of preaprations of excessive fluoride content, such as food grade salt with fluorine supplements or fluorine containing water, which is forced medicamentation. With progression, one can observe the formation of whitish, chalky looking smears in the enamel. Frequently, the dentin is exposed, and caries is fostered.
