Ticks (Ixodida) are a subclass of the mites (Acari) and belong to the class of arachnids. Their hosts are birds, reptiles and mammals. Many types of ticks transmit diseases, but are not infected themselves. One of the most common diseases is the Tick-borne encephalitis.
