Blood circulation of the liver
Flow of blood to the liver via the portal vein next to the hepatic artery through the sinusoids of the lobules into the central vein to the inferior vena cava and from there to the heart. On the inside of the vascular wall (endothelium) of the sinusoids are the Kupffer cells that are responsible for the liver`s immune defense. The bile produced by the hepatocytes leaves the lobules via the bile canaliculi
