Histological depiction of the spleen. The splenic parenchyma consists of a white pulp and a red pulp. The white pulp of the spleen contains the pulp arteries that are surrounded cylindrically by lymphocytes (periarterial lymphoid sheath, PALS) and the so-called Malpighian corpuscules (lienal lymphoid follicles, green), whereas the red pulp contains the venous splenic sinuses (blue networks) and the splenic reticulum. The splenic capsule (Tunica fibrosa splenica), from which trabeculae enter the inside, is shown in dark purple.
