Ovulation in the ovary
Anatomical structures: Ovary (cut open), fimbria as end parts of the uterine tube (oviduct). Ovulation is the ejection of an egg cell out of the female ovary and its following entry into the uterine tube. The ovulation happens in the middle of the female menstrual cycle. It can sometimes be noticed as a slightly dragging abdominal pain that can be accompanied by a little bleeding. The number of egg cells of a woman is already predetermined by the time of their birth, whereas the number of male sperm isn`t. The development of the egg cell contains various stages and is regulated by hormones.
