Joint injury and synovial fluid
Traumatized (injured) joint with bleeding into the articular capsule and synovia. The clear, mucus-containing, ropy synovial fluid is produced by the synovial membrane and protects the articular surfaces from degeneration, but itself degenerates due to contact with blood (see wavy line of the articular surfaces), which causes inflammation.
