In cross section, the arterial wall structure is well visible (from inwards to outwards):
- Tunica intima with endothelium, loose connective tissue, subendothelial layer and internal elastic membrane
- Tunica media with circular and obliquely spiral muscles as well as collagene and elastic fibers + external elastic membrane
- Tunica externa/adventitia consisting of elastic, collagene, fibrous connective tissue
