An artificial cardiac pacemaker is an implated, electronic device, that guarantees a stable heart rate in patients with bradycardia. The decvice stimulates the myocardium with an electric shock at a preprogrammed frequency of about 70 per minute. Newer pacemakers can adapt the heart rate to pysical activity (dynamic pacemakers).
