Liver cirrhosis is a chronic liver disease accompanied by a destruction of the lobal and vascular structures caused by inflammatory fibrosis.
Its functional characteristics are liver failure and portal hypertension with reduced perfusion of the liver. There are intrahepatic porto-systemic shunts.
