The scar represents the endstage of a successful wound healing process.
However, it is not a static tissue, but rather it is subject to typical remodelling processes, which are called “scar maturation”. This includes the increase in collagen fibres and ther continual contraction, which leads to a scar shrinkage. Next to which the density of blood vessel in the scar tissue is reduced, which in turn leads to the colour of the scar becoming pale.
