In the adult human body the liver is the largest digestive organ. Its functions are production of antibodies, proteins of the blood system, gall and detoxification of harmful substances. Almost every nutrient substance absorbed through the intestine into the blood first passes through the liver to be let into the blood system or to be extinguished. Further functions are storing of vitamins and synthesis of substances for hormone production.
