Professor Dr. Dittmar Böckler, medical director of the section for vascular surgery (on the right) and Professor Dr. Matthias Karck, medical director of the section for cardiac surgery of the University of Heidelberg, are standing in front of one of the monitor-walls that show theedimensional images of even the smallest vessels during the intervention.
"In the future many people will be spared the trauma of a big surgery, because inside the new hybrid-operating-room many highly complex interventions can be done through a catheter inside the vascular system", says Professor Dr. Dittmar Böckler, medical director of the section for vascular surgery of the University of Heidelberg, who, with his team, is going to be the main user of the new hybrid-operating-room.
The doctors, for example, stabilise an aorta minimally invasively with a stent, or do emergendy treatment of vascular injuries. Even heart surgery, for example the implantation of a new valve, can be done via catheter inside the new operating room.
