In the “Ambulatorium“ we treat around 1200 patients in 8 days. Ear infections are quite common in Nepal since the population is spread out so far in distant areas without access to medical assistance, such as antibiotics, tonsil surgery, ear tubes. A third of all handicapped are associated with ear diseases. Also the provision of hearing aids for children and adults is full of challenges, even though a hearing aid would only be as much as Fr. 60.– (in comparison: A hearing aid in Switzerland would be between Fr. 2500.– und Fr. 3500.–).
