Multiple abfractions. Typically wedge-shaped and sharp edged, abfraction lesions present primarily at the vestibular surface of the cervical tooth. Biomechanical loading was determined to be the cause of these lesions (BRAEM et al., 1992; HEYMANN et al., 1991). Stress concentration in the cervical region of teeth lead to microfractures in enamel and dentin by compression. Occlusal loading results in further stress and fracture of hard tooth substance (LEE und EAKLE, 1996; GOEL et al., 1991).
