The internal hydrocephalus is caused by obstruction of the drainage ducts, e.g. in the area of the aqueductus mesencephali in the midbrain, or in the area of the three apertures. This leads to accumulation and expansion of the liquor in the ventricular system.
The external hydrocephalus may be caused by meningitis or a bleeding in the subarachnoid space.
A combination of both is called Hydrozephalus internus et externus.
We are collaborating with 30 neurosurgeons from 7 large hospitals in Romania. They became a member of our organization and form our scientific advisory board, based on the model of ASBH-Dortmund. We also organized training sessions for romanian neurosurgeons at the Klinikum für Neurochirurgie Mainz.
Each year we attend the conference of the ASBH-Dortmund and also organize our own conferences with international guests. In Romania we need 500,- euro, the same operation would cost 20.000,- euro in germany. Further information: www.hwkr.de
