Histology: SM: Submucosa, MS: Muscularis propria, SS: Subserous fatty tissue.
The tumor cells do not form glands; they are spread out isolated in the tissue (picture on the bottom right). In this case the tumor infiltrated all layers of the gastric wall. The magnification shows tumor glands in the submucous layer. One can distinguish between tumor cells with signet ring morphology (white arrow) and such, without intracytoplasmatic mucous vacuoles (grey arrow).
