Vaporization of prostate tissue by GreenLight laser.
Men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), who did not experience relief through medication, are increasingly treated with a new laser technology: the green-light laser. It vaporizes the excess glandular tissue, there is nearly no bleeding and patients may, after two or three days, get back to work. The main advantage of the green light laser in comparison to previous laser techniques is that the tissue can be heated very superficially, the laser has a very low penetration depth. The only drawback: It is not possible to obtain tissue for histological examination. Therefore it must be established beforehand that the prostate changes are definitely benign.
