25 year old patient, suffering from pain in the right testicle since 8 hours.Cause: Testicular torsion which has already lead to an irreversible ischemia of the testis.Therapy: orchiectomyTesticular torsion is when the spermatic cord to a testicle twists, cutting off the blood supply of testis and epididymis and thus leading to hemorrhagic infarction. The underlying cause is usually a congenital malformation where a ligament that secures the testicles to the scrotum is missing. A testicular torsion often occurs in infancy or childhood, but it can also occur in adolescents and adults.
