The human cerebrum is neuroanatomically divided into frontal, temporal, occipital, and parietal lobe. It has many gyri which form macroscopically visible sulci. The outermost layer is the cerebral cortex and consists of gray matter, which mainly contains nerve cell bodies and proceeds in the spinal cord. The white matter consists of nerve fibers. The brain is surrounded by the following meninges: pia mater, arachnoidea, dura mater, followed by the cranial bones. The brain is surrounded by cerbrospinal fluid, which is mainly contained in the ventricles (see picture).
