The American ENT-physician William Fitzgerald developed a concept to split the body into ten zones in 1913. The borders are on the right and on the left of the spine with five longitudinal zones that are formed by ten tracks or energy fluxes. These longitudinal zones end in the feed, so that all organs can be found smaller there. Stimulating a skin area can impact an organ related to the same zone. Areas that represent sick or disturbed organs are more sensitive to pain or changed in their structure according to reflex therapy. This explains the painful treatment. Pushing, stroking, or other manual techniques in these areas are supposed to improve organ function through nervous interaction. Reflex zone massage exists for ears or hands, too. The reflex zone massage is regarded as an integral method and used in many diseases.
