Multicystic dysplasia of the kidney - kidney is swollen by multiple cysts. On the section just cysts, no parenchym visible (compare fig.1). Clinical history: 6 year old boy with MCDK (Multicystic dysplastic kidney)
Comment: Abnormal development of the renal parenchym as a result of a differentiation disorder of the metanephrogenic blastema, possibly resulting from an intrauterine obstruction of the urinary pathways. No familiarity. In a bilateral affection frequentl uremia shortly after birth. In an unilateral affection and permeable ureter, frequent pyelonephritis caused by reflux and lithiasis.Source: ©PathoPic
