Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) signifies a genetic disease causing cystic transformation of the kidneys. The respective kidneys can weigh up to several kilograms (a healthy kidney weighs 150 g). Long term consequences are renal insufficience resulting in chronic kidney failure.
